Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! I am on my mobile version of the door-to-door, going town-to-town holding readings/gatherings/discussions of my book "But What Can I Do?" This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels since 9/11 as I engage in dialogue and actions. It is steaming with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society we want ALL to thrive in

The word "fuckin" makes you sick???

I think I’ve hit my limit of being on this white womyn’s land. This evening, I was invited for dinner by a couple who lives on the land, along with another white womon who is visiting for the weekend.

We were sharing a meal when the conversation turned to the murder of Sandra Bland. The new womon unbelievably didn’t know who she was or what happened. I began to inform her and when I got to the part where the fuckin police pulled her over and began harassing her, one of the womyn whose house we were at, told me I wasn’t allowed to use that language in her house.

I was momentarily stunned, not just that she would interrupt the telling but that she would do so over a single word – and not over the egregious injustice that happened to Sandra at the hands of this fuckin policeman and the criminal injustice system in this country.

She made things worse by saying my choice of words made her sick – can you imagine? – and unable to continue eating. I told her to continue the telling then and that I was leaving.

She said that she hoped I wasn’t leaving because of what she said. Then she proceeded to tell me that her father told her people who curse are not intelligent.

I eventually told her that I do not strive for that level of intelligence in my life, and her father’s rules do not dictate my life or my language.

Now her father must have been born in the late 1800’s – I probably would have wondered what else her father said about lesbians let alone people of color when she was growing up: things that I’m sure she doesn’t hold so dear now.

So the white male violence perpetrated upon Sandra Bland is not what made her sick and unable to eat: my calling the cops “fuckin” police made her sick?

This is DEFINITELY NOT the place for me.
