Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! I am on my mobile version of the door-to-door, going town-to-town holding readings/gatherings/discussions of my book "But What Can I Do?" This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels since 9/11 as I engage in dialogue and actions. It is steaming with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society we want ALL to thrive in

Sexism ... fuckin still....

I'm supposed to be in charge of food for a mixed-sex event with both male and female volunteers on my team.

I let folks know where the sodas and coolers should go, where the utensils and napkins should be placed, and what tables the food should be spread out on and it what order.

I ask for questions and a fellow begins to question where I've decided to put the cold drinks and the alcoholic beverages. He wants to combine them both in the same cooler.

I tell him alcohol and non-alcoholic bottles will be separated and explain again how & why. I know there are clean and sober folks coming and I would not have had any alcohol here but it's not my event, just my job.

He bulks and a couple womyn join him and suggest another way to put both of those drinks together.

I cannot believe it. Then a young white man very authoritatively repeats exactly my former instructions, word-for-word, and everyone hops to it.

I do not want to get angry at this benefit so I just put this into the bag of misogynists behaviors and tie it off so I can enjoy and participate in this event - and the reception is set up exactly as I had planned.
