Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels across country in my mobile billboard truck as I attempt to engage in dialogue with people in hopes to wake us up and inspire action to change our country and communities and selves. And it is froth with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society and life we want

Off to the DNC- take 1

on the road again – off to the dnc! july 2004 take 1my cross-country journey was delayed slightly today –I was loading my truck w/final items, as well as doinglast minute chores around my shop when the hatecriminal struck again!!! I think I might have actuallyspoken w/him – from a distance, thank goodness! I hadtaken a trip from my front door to the driveway, wheremy truck was waiting, to put my pillow in the frontseat, when I noticed there was a car still lingeringout front & a tall, tight white fellow w/long legshovering around the front seat passenger side – Imotioned to him to look at the boxes of treasures outin front & take whatever he wanted. I did not have myglasses on so I couldn’t really make out theexpressions on his face, but he grunted a grumpy‘huh?’ when I encouraged him to help himself totreasures. when he realized what I was motioning to(the boxes lining the front of my driveway brimmingw/leftovers from the previous day’s sale), he made ahalf disgusted, half hostile sound & proceeded to foldhimself into the front seat. I then noticed a black &white bumper sticker on the side window that saidsomething about ‘not my guns’, heightening my alertstatus! I finished putting things in the back of thetruck & proceeded to lower the door & lock it up afterone final look. I went back into the shop to lock up.approaching the front door, I see a black & whitestriped sticker slapped on the door that readsomething like ‘the straight flag: it’s black &white’. I gritted my teeth, realizing that it had havebeen placed there moments prior. it didn’t bother methat much until I returned to my truck & went aroundto my codepink side & saw up close the bumper stickerthat read “control your children, not my guns”. when Irealized this was the same bumper sticker I saw onthat fellow’s car, I called the the past 2 weeks, someone has been leaving firstthreatening notes & later unique stickers that readhateful anti-gay things from “prevent aids:getstraight” to putting a red circle w/a line thru itover any rainbow flags I have.I’m telling this story because of how the Albanypolice responded to me, actually how this one officerresponded. he had taken an earlier call, the firstthat I placed after returning to my shop from Atlantato find someone had written ‘die cunt’ and other hatecrime slogans on my shop. this officer was a short, trim, lite-skinned man with a regulation military haircut & look about him. the first time he responded tomy call, he had been super professional & serious inhis response & interactions w/me. this time, as I’mtelling him what the sticker on my truck said, he justas seriously responded ‘you control your guns, yourdog, not your children. it is a parent’s job to guidetheir children, not control them.’ such an affirming way to begin my trip!
