respid and regrouping
When I arrive in Atlanta, my daughter wants me to rest. I've found the old codepink list for atlanta that may or may not be active - I email everyone to see if we can have a town hall meeting last nite. I know it's last minute but I have to do something. I talk on the phone all afternoon to folks all around the country - we are all in disbelief, in horror, in dread.
I remember when bush first took office in 2000 - he said he was going to finish what his daddy started in iraq. This time, before the republicans were even confirmed winners, they said they will proceed with drilling for oil in alaska and they will continue their tax cuts -for the rich, i've added of course. So remember these things.
Before I get to close my eyes, it is 7:00, time to meet. My daughter tries to call some folks to come, but it is too late. I read about demonstrations in Ohio, New York, Florida. I talk to the wimmin in Florida - their demonstration was rowdy & powerful. They are going forward with friday's demo as well, which will be bigger and louder and the press will be invited.
I think i'm leaving for California today. I spend the day researching what is happening across the country, in Ohio, in Florida. I catch up alot on my journals. I take my daughter to the airport - she is going to her grandmother's memorial serivce. She lost her great-grandmother and her grandmother a day apart this past July. Life, and death, keep going on. I'm so relieved my grandmother, a survivor of the holocaust and the womon I quote on the side of my truck, did not live to see this election - I don't think she could have taken it. My grandmother said way back, this is pre-war Germany, bush is like hitler, the american people are like the german people - sheep content to not question the lies they are being fed, herded by fear and greed, concerned only with their own self-interest. She was one of those people I promised the world would be different after the election. At least she doesn't know...
My daughter has arranged for me to have a massage tomorrow, a chiropractic visit on Sunday - she really wants me to stay and rest. So I will. I need to re-paint my truck and there's a movie "unconstitutional" playing tonite at the community center 2 miles away - so I will stay. I love my daughter, she is so good to me. peace & love, sam
