Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! I am on my mobile version of the door-to-door, going town-to-town holding readings/gatherings/discussions of my book "But What Can I Do?" This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels since 9/11 as I engage in dialogue and actions. It is steaming with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society we want ALL to thrive in

To the mountains!

This morning I waited for the Registrar of Voters office to open before leaving town - and I discovered there are mailboxes OUTSIDE the courthouse specifically for absentee ballots! So I could have dropped off my ballot anytime prior to the election!

This is my first kinda long distance trip since bringing my truck back from Atlanta, after the SECOND engine rebuild - and after working with Shazam for weeks on restoring the camper parts that were either stolen or broken. We still have some work to do - mostly cosmetic - but it will wait until I get back.

The drive up here - we're at Sierra City in the gold country just 2 miles from the Pacific Crest Trail and 6 miles from Sardine Lake, beautiful beautiful beautiful Sierra Nevada country~ - the drive up here was mechanically uneventful. I did have to switch to straight diesel at about 2500 feet for the last couple thousand feet up! I think if I change the main fuel filter, it should be okay.

We picked up wondrous  Highway 49 which follows the Yuba River in this part of the Sierras. It is just stunningly beautiful and I feel so lucky to be making this journey. When I first crossed into the Sierra Nevada in the early 70's I promised myself I would one day live here. Of course, this was before I got accustomed to living without snow!

Along the way, a couple of positive honks, peace symbols, and a few raised solidarity fists by womyn! When we stopped in a small town along side the road, a scruffy plaid shirted white man appearing either homeless or maybe just typical rugged mountain man abruptly stood feet parted with his hands slowly sliding down to his patched hips, staring silently at the "end violence against women & children" side of my truck.

I paused, having plenty of time to re-read every word twice while I ponder what his reaction might be, when he nods vigorously at me, points to the truck and says "yea, I like it" I breathe, smile broadly acknowledging his support, throw him a peace symbol as I continue to climb back in the driver's seat.

Sierra City turns out to be a very small town, typical of small towns in these mountains I'm sure. The houses are built on hills and not very far apart. There doesn't seem to be the 5 acre ordinance of Nevada City as I can see three neighbors' houses from 3 different sides of this house.

Maybe because it is almost winter but most of the trees here are cedar, pine, fur with some oak and several gorgeous broad leaf maples!

I'm curious to find out how they picked this town and this house!
