Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! I am on my mobile version of the door-to-door, going town-to-town holding readings/gatherings/discussions of my book "But What Can I Do?" This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels since 9/11 as I engage in dialogue and actions. It is steaming with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society we want ALL to thrive in

Asheville doesn't disappoint!

I’m trying to coax receptionist Dianna, according to her small nametag I can barely see as I’ve once again lost my glasses, the large white extremely polite southern graciousness oozing with every syllable, to answer my ‘are you great yet’ query. We are sitting in the entry room of the eye doctor which also doubles as an eyeglass frame display room, her behind the small desk and me and another customer occupying the wooden armed upholstered chairs across from her.

The other customer, a tall broad caramel coffee Black man with a shaved head and small rectangular metal-framed glasses sliding down is nose as we chat, waiting for the receptionist to get off the phone, has already expressed his disgust and fears concerning tRump.

I’m not sure if Dianna has heard but when she questions me as to why I’m traveling I think maybe she hasn’t heard so I explain my activist status and how I’m wanting to know what the common, everyday (tRump supporter understood) folks think about whether we’re getting great or not.

Twice I interject this question and twice she turns the discussion to a lengthy boring diatribe about her hatred of traveling by car – which she’s done very infrequently – and by plane – which she’s done once and abhors.

I finally give up, fearing that my podcast will never get off the ground.

Later I park at the YMCA so I can exercise and swim. When I get inside and to the workout room full of weights and machines, I see the entire 4 or 5 rows of 25 or 30 machines each line up facing the wall-to-wall windows and the back of my truck! I couldn’t have picked a better parking spot if I’d scoped out the joint and planned it! As I run, I watch people drive or walk over, pull out cameras, and examine each side, mostly smiling and snapping photos.

When I leave the Y, I see two things left on the windshield: a small bumper sticker about releasing Marius and all prisoners which I immediately stick on the back bummer appreciating that unlike Bob from Flagstaff, they didn’t just arbitrarily slap it on my truck, and a note scribbled on a random piece of raggedly cardboard thanking me and giving me love and solidarity!

Later I hang out a Greenleaf, a grocery store that at first I was excited was not a Whole Foods but later found out Whole Foods actually owns it but never changed the name….hmmmmm. I’m blogging on the outside picnic tables and keeping an eye on my truck which is probably parked 2 or 300 feet away. I have so much fun watching the folks here, sometimes taking selfies at one side or the other, sometimes taking group photos under the “Womyn ARE the Wall” side, or just as often taking singular shots and maybe instagramming or whatever they do now to spread the word!

Once again, my truck works for me while I’m off doing something else! Plus I do not get one fuck you the whole time I'm driving around Asheville! Like Atlanta and Berkeley!
