I think we should make sure we use this Veteran's Day opportunity to invite & challenge all those veterans & their families who once believed that killing Iraqis, Afghans, and other defenseless human beings in all the nations that our corporations sent the military in to procure their resources, was "fighting for our right to free speech", to come to Occupies, link arms, and stand before the police line & between police and demonstrators, to REALLY have the courage it takes to fight for our rights in this land and on this soil!
I think we should NOT be on the "support our veterans", "support our military", "support our soldiers" band wagon simply because we are falling under the mighty propaganda machine that claims the military and it's members are entitled to act with impunity, are above our criticisms, merely because they are a vital part of the military industrial complex; and attempts to forbid us to hold them accountable (as we hold ourselves the taxpayers & all the tenets of the m.i.c.) for their part in our world domination.
And I think we should be able to do this with compassion and without being subjected or succumbing to the violence of being screamed at, labeled "unamerican" (altho if being "american" means I do not have the right to hold our military as accountable as I hold other war profiteers and war mongers, then maybe the shoe fits!), and told "we/they're fighting for our rights of free speech - now shut up!"
